An hour by speedboat from Malé Airport, the Meeru Island Resort comprises villa residences set in unspoilt tropical seclusion amidst tall coconut palms and white sand, surrounded by an azure lagoon. The 33 wooden villas feature simple, tropical decor and wooden flooring and open on to private furnished sundecks with steps into the sea. Amenities include sitting areas with D V D players and cable television, dial up Internet ports, minibars and jetted tubs for two. < B R> The resort offers 1.5 kilometres of white sand beach, served by a mobile 'bar cart' serving refreshments, and the sparkling waters of the lagoon. The Ocean Pro scuba centre operates guided diving and snorkelling boat trips, sells equipment and accessories and offers a complete P A D I instructional programme. The windsurfing and sailing centre also offers instruction, alongside glass bottomed boat tours and the hire of open kayaks. Other aquatic tours include sunset cruises, island hopping excursions, fishing trips, Robinson Crusoe island adventures, submarine sightseeing and romantic love boat cruises. Away from the water, guests can play tennis on two floodlit courts, while other sporting options include beach volleyball, badminton, table tennis, darts, petanque, football and a golf driving range. A freshwater swimming pool overlooks the beach, and children can be kept amused in a dedicated wading pool. Two spas, one of which is over the water, offer a range of indulgent massage and beauty treatments, and the resort also houses two fitness centres. Other activities include a weekly evening entertainment programme, featuring a dance show, D Js and live music, movies, divers' videos and crab races. The resort offers four restaurants and five bars, including open air dining areas and one venue located on a yacht anchored in the lagoon. Guests are always close to nature, being able to feel the sand between their toes even in the interior public areas of the hotel, including the jewellery and gift shops and the Internet cafe.
